Pre-Shower Hair Routine

While we all have worked hard to build the shampoo and conditioning routine that suits our scalp and hair best, we often forget about the potential impact of a pre-shower routine. A pre-shower routine can have several benefits, but a few of the main ones I have noticed with my hair are protecting my hair before the shampoo and conditioning ritual, adding moisture back to my hair (especially if you have dry ends), increase blood flow, and balancing the overall appearance of my locks. Keep reading for a few of my essential steps before washing my hair.

STEP 1:

One of the things I am loving recently is the focus and emphasis on the scalp. Scalp health is often overlooked and although our scalps (mostly) function well without intervention, a little TLC (especially if you love to use products) is helpful! In my pre-shower routine, one of my first steps is a scalp serum.  I am currently obsessed with the serum from Maya Chia. It’s lightweight, but powerful. The duo of ginseng and caffeine helps stimulates the scalp. I typically spray it directly on my scalp, evenly distributing it all over.

STEP 2:

This might be my favorite step. While the serum is still in my hair, I take the scalp massager and gently massage my scalp with medium pressure. Not only does it provide a calming and relaxing massage experience, but it also promotes circulation to the scalp.

STEP 3:

If you’ve been following me for a minute, you know how much I love my Gisou hair oil. In efforts to soften my strands, I love to apply a full dropper of hair oil mid-shaft to the ends of my hair. What I love about this hair oil is you have a few options of when and why to apply it. For a moisture and softening boost, it makes the perfect pre-shower step (like I am doing here). If you are wanting a little extra shine as a finishing step, you can also apply it to the ends when you are finished styling your hair. You also have the option of using it as an overnight treatment by coating full droppers to dry hair overnight. P.S I just tried a new hair oil that hasn’t yet been released and let me tell you YOU GUYS ARE GOING TO LOVE IT. My before and afters are insane. I can’t wait to share with you!!

STEP 4:

In an effort to let all the serums and oils marinate in my hair, I like to gently twist my hair up in a bun for about 15-20 minutes. I am obsessed with these scrunchies from Crown Affair. They are made of delicate-yet-strong fibers that’s gentle on your hair.

From here, all that is left is to shower and blow dry my hair. I honestly believe that this pre-shower routine has been such a key aspect to supporting my hair health journey.
