Remove Hair Build Up
Have you noticed your hair looking lackluster and weighed down lately? It might be due to hair buildup, a common issue caused by various factors, including the use of dry shampoo. Hair buildup occurs when product residue, environmental pollutants, excess oils, and even dry shampoo accumulate on the hair shaft and scalp, leaving your locks feeling dull and lifeless. Since I became more interested in hair and scalp treatments, I noticed a huge change in the health of my hair but with that can come buildup at the scalp. This is the exact routine I use to knix the hair buildup!
It Starts BEFORE the shower:
Once a week or so, before hopping in the shower I like to apply a scalp treatment made specifically for product buildup. This detox spray has a complex of 3 acids plus charcoal and humectants. The acids help to break up build-up and oil and soothe the scalp. My scalp tends to get irritated and itchy with buildup so this is a bonus. Charcoal binds and absorbs impurities. I leave this on for about 5 to 10 minutes before hopping in the shower.
Scalp Scrub:
Another game-changing step in my scalp care routine is using a rejuvenating scalp scrub like the Briogeo Scalp Revival. This invigorating scrub is a true treat for my scalp, gently exfoliating to remove dead skin cells and product buildup that can weigh down my hair. The refreshing blend of charcoal, peppermint, and tea tree oil leaves my scalp feeling revitalized. Seriously, this stuff smells good enough to eat, kind of like a sweet peppermint treat. Massaging this scrub onto my scalp not only promotes a clean and healthy environment but also enhances circulation. Incorporating this scalp scrub into my routine has been a game-changer! My favorite combo EVER when I have significant buildup is to use the scalp scrub, scalp massage tool, and then finish with the detox shampoo. The results are UNREAL!
Detox Shampoo for Deep Cleansing:
Speaking of detox shampoos, the key to combating hair buildup is starting with a deep cleanse. Introduce a detoxifying shampoo into your routine, like the K18 Peptide-Infused Shampoo. This innovative shampoo not only breaks down and removes stubborn product residues and pollutants but also contains K18 Peptide, a patented bioactive peptide that repairs and strengthens hair from within. Use the K18 Peptide-Infused Shampoo every 2-3 washes to maintain optimal hair health and prevent future buildup.
Nourishing Hair and Scalp Massage:
Enhance your hair care routine with a rejuvenating hair and scalp massage. Regular massaging may stimulate blood circulation, promoting a healthy scalp environment and encouraging hair growth. Use a hair massage tool to gently massage your scalp in circular motions, working your way from the hairline to the crown. OR you can simply use your fingertips! This simple (yet blissful) step aids in distributing natural oils and revitalizing your hair. I, personally, love the Briogeo Scalp Revival Scalp Massager.
Pre-Shower Oiling Routine:
You might be wondering how all of this detoxifying the scalp will make your ends feel… If you’re like me and have hair on the dry side, you may want to dry it with a pre-shower oil. I like to oil my strands before a detox wash day so that they are protected. The oil will more or less wash off in the shower, however, it acts as a bit of protection so that the natural oils in your hair aren’t strippers. One of my current obsessions is the rising emphasis on scalp health. I apply a generous droplet of hair oil from the mid-shaft to the ends. The Crown Affair hair oil is my top pick for this stage. Secure your hair (the Crown Affair hair tie is also my go-to), and let these oils soak in for about 15-20 minutes before you hop in the shower. You can do this at the same time you do your scalp serum in step 1! For a detailed look at my pre-shower routine, check out my recent blog!
Invest in a Shower Filter:
Finally, I highly encourage installing a shower filter to reduce the mineral content in your water, particularly if you live in an area with hard water. The shower filter helps remove minerals and impurities from the water, preventing them from depositing on your hair and scalp. This simple addition can make a significant difference in the health and appearance of your hair, it sure did for me! You can read more about the benefits of a shower hair filter here!
