How to Stick to a Sustainable Wellness Routine

Last week in my stories, I asked my instagram followers: “What is your ONE struggle when it comes to your health, wellness and fitness?” I was overwhelmed with responses and reading through them, they are many of the things I have also struggled with in the past or even presently. I decided it would be best to make this into a Weekly Wellness Series so I can cover them all!

One of the most common responses to my question was: sticking to a routine and making it sustainable!

How to Stick to a Sustainable Wellness Routine

I had been up and down this rollercoaster for years. I would be all in for a few months, working out 5-6 days a week and eating incredibly clean. If I missed a workout one day I was hard on myself. Eventually this led to burning out and months (or even more) of couch potato life while I recovered enough energy to get back on the horse. As you know if you’ve been there, it DOESN’T feel great.

This up and down happened for years until about a year ago I finally realized that an intense schedule and guilt if I didn’t meet it was NEVER going to be sustainable. If it’s not sustainable then we’re never going to make any real progress. And let’s not forget that being fit is great… but the purpose of ALL of this is really to live a long, healthy and happy life with those we love. We want to feel our best when we’re running after our kids or just during our average work day.

Now, I’ve ditched the all-or-nothing mentality and just do what I can. I workout 2-3 days a week and try to move functionally (get more steps in) as much as possible. I try to keep my pescatarian/Mediterranean diet low in dairy and processed foods. And I splurge when I feel like it and have zero guilt about it. This mentality makes it so much easier for me to keep a balanced lifestyle and I find myself making much better choices even on weekends.

I can’t wait to share even more wellness tips and an answer more of your questions! Drop any others below!
