My Hair Growth Stack: What I Use for Longer, Stronger, Healthier Hair
I get questions about hair growth pretty regularly, especially after the last few years of combatting postpartum shedding with both my daughters. And while postpartum hair loss is incredibly common, the truth is that many people experience thinning, shedding, or slower regrowth at different stages of life. In reality, there isn’t one magic step that is going to fix everything. Hair growth is about supporting the follicle from a few different angles (and, of course, being consistent over time).
So today I wanted to share what my current hair growth stack actually looks like. I also think now is a perfect time to remind you that I will only share with you what I personally love/use, so buckle up and take notes.
1. LED Hair Growth Therapy
Thinning hair? Slow regrowth? You’re not alone. This is a question I get asked about alot. Sadly I’ve never had a solution…until now. Red light therapy, once a skincare secret, is now making waves in the hair world.
If you’ve read some of my past hair blogs, you know that I’m a big believer in addressing hair growth at both the follicle level and the scalp. Most traditional hair growth products (oils, serums, treatments) sit primarily on the scalp. They can absolutely support scalp health, but they don’t always address what’s happening deeper. This is where Red Light Therapy for hair loss can make a significant difference
You already know I use an LED face mask regularly, (you can read my blog on my favorite skincare devices, for more info on that), but over the past 3 years I’ve also incorporated the CurrentBody LED Hair Growth Helmet into my routine.
One thing worth mentioning, is that it works for both men and women, which is why my husband started using it as well. Honestly, after our daughters go to bed, we’ll put our helmets on and debrief about the day. Consider it our little bonding time to conclude the day!
So why does LED therapy work for hair growth?
The CurrentBody helmet uses clinically studied 620–660nm red light wavelengths, which are designed to penetrate the scalp and stimulate the follicles directly. At this wavelength, red light helps energize the follicle at the root, supporting the natural hair growth cycle and encouraging stronger, thicker-looking hair over time.
This is also why I think it pairs really well with other hair growth approaches. Topical treatments support the surface of the scalp, and LED therapy works deeper where the follicle actually lives, so they complement each other really nicely.
I could go on and on about why I love this approach, but I’ll keep it concise to these three reasons:
• LED Light Therapy works below the surface, where the follicle actually lives
• The helmet provides full scalp coverage, rather than only treating small sections
• It’s extremely easy to stay consistent with (literally just 10 minutes a day), which is key for seeing the best hair growth results
And for a little bit of evidence (since you know I love numbers to back claims):
up to 123% faster hair growth rate
72% reduction in shedding
120 red light LEDs deliver full scalp coverage
26% increase in hair density
One important thing to remember is that hair growth takes time. Most people begin noticing changes around the 12–16 week mark, which is why consistency really matters with treatments like this.
REMINDER: Consistency is everything with LED hair growth. Be consistent (at least 5 nights a week, but ideally everyday in those first 12-16 weeks) and trust the process. If you’re curious about trying it, you can use my code CBAMY for 10% off all CurrentBody devices.
Just for further proof, here is a little before and after of my hair density since starting to use the helmet!
2. Supplements
You can think of this second piece as supporting hair growth from the inside out.
To no surprise, hair growth is influenced by a lot of internal factors, things like nutrient levels, hormones, stress, and inflammation. Ultimately, this is why I consider supplements to play a helpful role.
For a long time I’ve used Nutrafol, which is one of the more well-known hair supplements. It takes a multi-targeted approach to hair thinning and includes ingredients that support follicle health, stress response, and hormone balance. You can use this link for a discount on your first order!
In the last couple of years, I’ve been using the Arey system, which I really like because it focuses on both hair growth and greys. The system includes both a supplement and a scalp serum designed to support melanin production in the hair follicle. Since greying and thinning often happen around the same time, I appreciate that it addresses both concerns. I actually started using The System after the birth of my second daughter, and there was a big improvement in my postpartum hair loss from my first. Use code AMY15 for a discount!
3. Protein + Collagen
Continuing on with the theme of supporting hair growth from the inside out, the final piece of my hair growth stack is something that, to me, is too often overlooked: nutrition.
Hair is primarily made of keratin, which is a structural protein. So if you’re not getting enough protein in your diet, your body simply doesn’t have the building blocks it needs to prioritize hair growth.
Let’s cover some of the nutrients that play a major role in hair health include:
• protein
• iron
• zinc
• amino acids
• B vitamins
I always try to get most of this through whole foods, but I swear by these additions as well for my protein requirements:
• hydrolized collagen peptides - i mix this into my coffee with milk every singly morning and i don’t notice a taste at all!
• this protein powder - this goes in my skin-friendly smoothie which i make nearly every day
Now I know you already know this, but let this be your reminder that proper nutrition doesn’t magically grow hair on its own, but can help ensure your body has the raw materials it needs to support healthy hair growth.
Trust me, I know that hair growth can take an extreme amount of patience! With that, as someone who has chopped and grown her hair out (one too many times), these 3 steps are going to support your hair growth journey IMMENSELY! As always, let me know if you have any questions!
xx Amy
