My Shower Routine (HAIR EDITION)

So I was going through my blog the other day and realized I had a pre-shower routine and shower must-haves, but I didn’t have a designated “shower hair routine” blog. So today, I’m taking you inside my actual shower routine.

Before I dive into the details, let me say this loud and clear: your wash routine should be tailored to you. Just like your skincare routine, the amount of time that goes between wash days, what your scalp needs, etc. is going to vary from person to person. Factors like your scalp type, oil production, workout frequency, hormones, and even the season all play a role. I, personally, typically wash every 3–4 days, but that cadence can easily shift depending on how my scalp feels.

Now, let’s get into what I actually do on wash days!

How I Approach Wash Day

My shower routine changes slightly depending on the time of year, how dry or flaky my scalp feels, and how much buildup I’ve accumulated. I tend to rotate between a few “wash day” structures, each with a slightly different goal.

Before I break down the actual wash-day combos, here is a quick glossary of the products I rotate between. Any time you see one of these steps mentioned, I’m usually choosing from the options below.

My Wash Day “Key”

  • Conditioning Mask

Briogeo - the one I grab most often. It’s my “universal” mask that works well with my hair, regardless of the season or hair phase I’m in.

Gisou - this one is just so thick and luxurious. Especially in colder months, when my hair feels super dry and brittle, I love it!

Kerastase - Kerastase formulas are super targeted and are especially great for damage or breakage.

  • Peptide Treatment

K18 Leave In Mask - my go-to when I want true repair. Unlike traditional conditioners, K18 uses a patented peptide that travels into the inner layers of the hair to help reconnect broken keratin bonds from bleach, heat, and color.

  • Wrap

I go in with my Dyson after pretty much every wash day, but as mentioned below, I will wrap my hair before I do. This is the only towel I will use:

Ok let’s piece together these products into a few different wash day structures that I rotate between!

Wash Day 1 — Reset

Again, make sure you read my pre-shower routine, to fully understand the context!

  • Scalp Treatment

  • Detox Shampoo

  • Gentle Shampoo

  • Conditioner

  • Get out of the shower and use wrap, before continuing with my post-shower routine!

Wash Day 2 — Repair

Pre shower prep always!

  • Detox Shampoo

  • Gentle Shampoo

  • Peptide Treatment (make sure to keep on for 4 minutes before removing or go in with another product)

  • Conditioning Mask

  • Wrap

Wash Day 3 — Nourish

  • Scalp Treatment

  • Detox Shampoo

  • Gentle Shampoo

  • Conditioning Mask

Tailoring It to the Season

Probably obvious, but your shower hair routine should adjust subtly for the season. For example, in winter, I find myself reaching for my conditioning masks. During warmer months, I focus more on detoxing and scalp care.

The same goes for scrubs — I use them more often when my scalp feels flaky or irritated, and scale back when it feels more “normal.” It’s truly about listening to your hair/scalp needs!

Happy Fall everyone! I hope this helps your hair with the transition. As usual DM me any and all questions!
