AM Pregnancy Skin Care Routine

Now that I am on my second pregnancy, I have been receiving a ton of questions on what my pregnancy skincare routine looks like! Truth be told, I feel like pregnancy skincare gets over complicated. So I really want to give you a breakdown of the exact products and steps I take for my skincare in the morning. If you are curious about what products I swear by and what skincare worked well for me during pregnancy? Keep on reading!

I feel like I should start this off by saying that my goal with my morning routine during pregnancy is to use pregnancy-safe ingredients that prioritize hydration and protection. Here is what a typical morning routine looks like:

As for cleanser, I love to wash with a Benzyol Peroxide acne treatment. This one from Jan Marini is a go-to of mine! it assists in thoroughly cleansing my skin, without stripping it or causing excessive dryness (win win). It helps to keep pregnancy acne (or any acne) at bay and even helps with my occasional rosacea flare.

Pro Tip: Leave on the skin for 60 seconds before removing it, so the cleanser has time to activate!

Next, I love to use an eye cream (when I have the time)! I like to apply this after cleansing to help protect the delicate skin around the eyes. Origins’ Ginzing Refreshing Eye Cream is a dream for de-puffing, while making the under-eye area also look lighter and brighter due to the subtle pigments in the formulation. I also add a dab of this before using concealer for extra brightening power. I should emphasize that eye cream isn’t a necessary step, but I always appreciate a little extra TLC around the under eye area.

My favorite and one of the MOST IMPORTANT steps in my morning routine is next: Vitamin C. Whether or not I am pregnant, this step is a must. Since I combat hyperpigmentation, it was pivotal that I amped up my Vitamin C game. Of course the SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic Vitamin C serum has been a staple for years. There’s a reason you see so many Derm providers rave about this one. She’s pricey but she has the clinical research to back it up. It’s a patented formula and very well-researched so dispute what INCI lists might say, there’s no true dupe. I also love Dr. Brandts C-Scription for sensitive types and Cetaphil’s Vitamin C as a great budget-friendly alternative.

When it comes to my moisturizer,  I am a huge fan of incorporating ceramides especially during the winter months. My go- to moisturizers have  humectants, occlusives, and emollients (aka EVERYTHING you need in a moisturizer). Some of them include the AESTURA Atobarrier 365 cream (a Kbeauty brand that’s launching in US Sephoras), Skinfix Barrier + (great for extra dry skin). I also love the Cetaphil Cream for a drugstore option!

The final step in my skincare routine (and the one I will NEVER skip) is sunscreen. I typically prefer a tinted sunscreen. Tinted sunscreens are better for those with hyperpigmentation as they provide a bit of extra protection from visible light. Some of my go-tos are the ISDIN tinted (great liquid formulation that doubles as a foundation), Kosas Dream Beam, and I love the very lightly tinted Bloomeffects Sunscreen Serum for fair-light skin types.

To be honest, my morning routine hasn’t changed much from what it was pre-pregnancy and these steps continue to work wonderfully for me. If you are struggling with hyperpigmentation or have acne-prone skin, this routine might be right up your alley as well! If you haven’t already, make sure to read my blog on my PM Pregnancy Routine!

xx Amy
