Best Routine For Dry, Winter Skin
Let’s face it, winter and dry skin go hand in hand. The cold, harsh air, low humidity, and artificial heaters leave our skin feeling dry, flaky, and itchy. It can be a hit to the confidence and potentially even painful. If this is you, don’t be stressed, there are so many incredible products and habits that will combat dry, winter skin. Keep reading for the evening skin routine I swear by all winter long.
Step 1: Gently apply a creamy cleanser. Creamy cleansers do such an incredible job at facilitating cleansing, without stripping the skin. Especially with the weather drying out our skin already, the last thing you want is to use a cleanser that will remove even more moisture. For creamy cleansers, I love Skinfix Barrier+ Foaming Oil Hydrating Cleanser and KIEHL’S Ultra Facial Cleanser. Once you’ve washed your skin with your creamy cleanser, use a clean towel, but leave your skin slightly damp.
Step 2: On damp skin, apply your favorite humectant. I like to think of humectants as “water magnets.” They do a good job of making the skin appear plump and hydrated. Humectants will help usher water into the skin, and other ingredients will help to keep water there. Humectants are present in most moisturizers, serums and sunscreens, but a few of my recent favorite humectant serums are Summer Fridays Dream Oasis Deep Hydration Serum and GLOW RECIPE Watermelon Glow Niacinamide Dew Drops.
Step 3: Moisturizer! It’s super common for people to try to combat dry skin by smearing too much moisturizer on your face, which ends a goopy mess. Instead, apply a thin layer of your favorite moisturizer all over. If you’ve been following me for awhile, you probably already know that Skinfix Triple Lipid-Peptide Cream is a must-have for me all winter long!
Step 4: This is my absolute favorite step! Apply a pea sized amount of petrolatum, like vaseline, aquaphor, or a generic store brand, all over. I like to think of this step as the ultimate seal. Petrolatum products are an occlusive substance, meaning that it forms a layer on the skin’s surface that can effectively block moisture loss. Don’t forget to apply some on to your lips for the ultimate chapstick!
