My Favorite Retinoid

In the world of skincare, it's easy to become overwhelmed by the multitude of products and brands. When it comes to retinoids, there are so many incredible ones. But I thought long and hard about which retinoid would win the top spot and the one that truly stands out is Tretinoin. Tretinoin is a prescription-strength derivative of Vitamin A. We use this retinoid in Dermatology to target a multitude of concerns.

The Benefits of Tretinoin

Combats Acne: If you're struggling with acne, Tretinoin can be a game-changer. In fact, it’s one of the most commonly prescribed and most effective topical acne medications currently available. Tretinoin works by increasing cellular turnover and will, over a period of weeks, start to reduce the frequency of new acne breakouts leading to clearer and clearer skin over time. It can reduce “clogged” pores and reduce inflammation associated with acne.

Anti-Aging: Tretinoin works to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, making your skin look firmer, bouncier and more youthful. By stimulating collagen production and increasing skin cell turnover, it not only smooths existing lines but also prevents new ones from forming. Aside from sunscreen, it’s one of the most efficacious “anti-aging” ingredients.

Improved Skin Tone & Texture: First, let me just say that uneven skin tone and texture is completely normal. We all have it to some degree, despite what the overuse of “beauty filters” on social media would leave you believing. But, if more even skin tone and texture is on your skin wishlist, long term use of Retinoids is the key for smoother looking skin. An added benefit of that increased cellular turnover, after a few weeks of (hopefully very little) flaking, the skin starts to look and feel smoother and brighter.

Reduces The Appearance of Pores: Tretinoin also works to minimize the appearance of pores. It prevents them from becoming congested with excess oil and debris, which can lead to enlarged pores.
