Free Haircare Changes
As we welcome the New Year, I am all about finding budget-friendly habits I can adopt in my hair routine. While I'm a big advocate for quality hair products and styling tools, I truly believe there are so many wonderful hair care practices that are completely free. Here are my favorite tips to keep your hair healthy without spending a dime:
1. Detangle Before Showering
I swear by brushing my hair thoroughly before showering. Detangling your hair when it's dry helps prevent breakage and damage that occur when brushing wet hair. Gently brush your hair, starting from the ends and working your way up, to remove tangles and knots. This practice ensures your hair is nice and smooth before it gets wet, which is when it's most vulnerable to damage. 2. Scalp Massage
As an added bonus, while brushing your hair, use a brush with dense bristles to gently massage the root of the hair. I love a good scalp massager, but a brush works just as well if you don’t already have one! This not only helps to break up product buildup but also stimulates blood flow to the scalp. (I know hair build up can be stubborn and frustrating, so here are a few more of my favorite tips for removing hair build up). Increased circulation means more nutrients and oxygen to support hair growth and strength -a win/win. Just be sure not to use too much pressure or brush too hard as that can cause too much tension at the root. If you’re unsure about how to do this safely, your fingers are also a great tool!
3. Don’t Skip Areas While Shampooing
Ok I have absolutely made this mistake before. It can be so natural to just shampoo the crown of your head, and forget about the other regions. But trust me, shampooing isn't just about cleaning the visible parts of your scalp. It's crucial to thoroughly cleanse the entire scalp. In my opinion, the most often-neglected areas like the bottom of your scalp, the nape of your neck, and down the middle of your part. This full-scalp cleansing prevents product buildup, which can lead to flaking, irritation, and even hair thinning. So next time you’re cleansing your hair, take an extra minute to ensure you're shampooing your entire scalp (it will become second nature in no time).
I can’t wait for you to give these tips a try! They might be simple, but they can truly make all the difference! For a little more of a visual on the subject, make sure to watch my free hair care tips Tiktok!
